The 830 strong ISS student body is truly multicultural, with students from approximately 45 different nations. Both campuses are accessible by public transport and by road from the town centers or from the autobahn system surrounding Stuttgart. The school has two campuses, in Degerloch, a suburb on the southwestern edge of Stuttgart and in Sindelfingen. ISS is renowned in Germany for taking this further with its STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) initiative with including Arts. ISS is also recognised as a MINT Freundliche Schule (STEM-friendly school) and Digitale Schule (digital school). The school is accredited by the International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, Council of International Schools, the New England Association of Schools and Colleges and is recognised by the local state of Baden-Württemberg. It is governed by a Board of Trustees elected by parents, who are automatically members of the Verein. ISS is a private, non-profit institution (Verein or Association) which was founded in 1985 to serve the needs of the local international community.
